Mission Statement

The Authority will work to: provide and promote affordable and suitable living environments that are safe, decent, and free from discrimination; to treat our clients as individuals and not as a class or group; and to work with community agencies and organizations to provide access to services that may improve clients’ quality of life.

  • Brazil, Indiana is the county seat of Clay County with a population of 8,022 people (according to the 2014 American Community Survey), and is considered part of the “Wabash Valley” or west central Indiana region. We are situated along the intersection of the National Road US 40 and State Road HW 59.

Legal Notice

In compliance with the Housing and Economic Recovery Act (HERA), Title VII, Small Public Housing Authority Paperwork Reduction Act, the Brazil Housing Authority will hold a public hearing on any changes to the goals, Objectives, work items, and policies of the Authority and referenced in our Five-Year Agency Plan and its 2026 Annual Plan.

The public may view our Five-Year Plan and information relevant to the Plan at the Authority’s Administrative Office located at 122 W. Jackson Street in Brazil, IN during normal office hours (8:00 to Noon and 1:00 to 5:30 PM – Monday thru Thursday.)

A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 8:30 AM in the Jackson Gardens Community Room 122 W. Jackson Street, Brazil, IN.
